The Background

Camp Connecticut in Colchester is one of the lesser known haunted locations in the state, however this does not mean it is any less debated.  Once a local campground for children, the area was closed after years of success.  Rumors such as the death or drowning of a child or counselors going insane circle the internet, but no one knows why it was closed for sure.  The Oddfellows are now the owners of the campground and there is currently a logging company at work within the location.  This area is clearly private property and there are many “Posted” and “No Trespassing” signs within the trails.  Please do not visit without permission.

A wide variety of phenomena have been reported by explorers.  Screaming or laughing children have been reportedly recorded on EVP’s, pain in the midsection, orbs, and various apparitions have all been reported.  Many people believe that there are cult rituals or satanic activity happening on the grounds, maybe by the Oddfellows themselves, but again this is just speculation.  Much of the phenomena is concentrated on the front gate, by the road entrance on Old Hebron Road.

This trip was more of a reconnaissance before an official investigation that will take place fairly soon.  After exploring the pavilion area, the “church,” the lake, and the connecting trails, nothing overtly happened.  I took about 50 pictures during the course of the journey and there was not any kind of phenomena present.  There were logging trucks and dumpsters in the main pavilion area, so it is clear that the camp is inhabited during the day.

The history of this location is almost completely unknown.  The owner refuses to open it up to the public again and will not answer questions or respond to interview requests.  It is possible that he is hiding something, but most likely he is tired of being bothered about this camp.  Stay tuned for more updates, including a formal investigation, on this site.
